Tech Note 1: Pinion Seal Note
The Pinion Seal included with this Kit is a good quality aftermarket part. For a Premium Original Equipment Quality Pinion Seal for your truck, order optional QU40215 Seal for all axles except 1980-1996 Ford IFS Dana 44. If you have a 1980-1996 Ford Dana 44IFS front axle, the optional Original equipment seal is QU40578.

Tech Note 2: Wear
Inspect your pinion flange yoke for wear or damage in the area where the seal rides. Replace any yoke that has significant grooving or other conditions that could wreck or prematurely wear your new seal.

Tech Note 5: Applications
The Dana 44 axles that use this Kit would be in most 1967-1993 model year 4x4s with Dana 44 solid beam type front axles using shims for setting pinion bearing preload. Earlier vehicles will have different differential bearings. Later models use a crush sleeve instead of shims for pinion bearing preload, have a different pini Tech Note 4: on seal, and usually different bearings.
