A staple for many gardens Asters come in numerous varieties and we recommend these for zones 3-8, and are not recommended for extreme heat or zones 9-13.

If in warmer zones 7-8 it's best to start in pots early and then transplant after your last frost in the spring.  While they can be transplanted their roots prefer to not be disturbed when transplanted so it's best to use a compostable peat pot, or peat pellets, when starting early in pots and plant the whole pot instead of removing the seedling when transplanting.  When starting in pots sows seeds on the surface and lightly dust with fine sand or vermiculite as they need light to germinate.

For zones 3-6 if you are going to direct seed sprinkle them after your last frost and cover with a light dusting of compost or peat.

A quick note about Asters and a fungus called Fusarium.  In the same manner how Hollyhock are very susceptible to Rust, Asters are susceptible to a natural soil born fungus called Fusarium.  We recommend you dust your Aster garden area in the spring (after tilling your soil), prior to sowing your seedlings, with dustable sulfur which you can get at any home improvement or garden center.  In zone 7 we dust them again around the first of July just to make sure we don't have any problems with Fusarium during the summer.  Sulfur raises the PH of the surface of soil, which does not kill Fusarium, but makes it difficult for it to replicate and spread.

Asters are sensitive to heat and mildew so we like to plant them in a area that has good air flow and that gets late afternoon shade.

Not interested in chewing this toy
Size: 8"
Our corgi is a very aggressive chewer but just doesn’t like this toy. He’ll pick it up excitedly and run off with it only to drop it and walk away, as if he tastes something bad. He’s attempted to chew it a few times but will stop within a few seconds and just walk away. He’s done this at least 10 times. I can’t figure it out. This dog chews up everything, but leaves this toy alone. I had such great hopes for this chew toy. A big waste of money.

The best for my 3 extreme chewers!!
Size: 9.75"
These are the only bones I buy!!! We have three extreme chewers, pitty, Great Dane, German Shepard, and they love these! They last for about 6 months or so before they get to small for my liking and I order more. That is amazing considering the "toughest" toys that are "indestructible" usually last three minutes max lol. I like that they are made of good ingredients and made in the USA, and they don't have any weird smells like some bones I've tried. They all go bananas when I get a new box in, definitely my only go to for extreme chewers!!

10/10!
Size: 6", Size: 6"
My dogs love the Boar BarkBone! I ordered a medium thinking it would still be pretty big, but it came in looking more like a small, hence the name of the "Boar" BarkBone. The Dino BarkBones seem to size up one and the Boar BarkBones size down one, so keep that in kind when getting one for your furry friend. Nevertheless, my two smaller dogs still enjoy chewing on this bone! It is easy for them to keep a hold of and easy to chew on. Like other Pet Qwerks bones we’ve gotten in the past, it does not smell to me, but the dogs seem to love the smell and it is everlasting throughout the entire life of the bone. It doesn’t ever break off in easy-to-swallow chunks and is actually pretty hard to break into. This bone is perfect for every dog, from light chewers to tough chewers, and is something I would recommend to anyone!
